Are You at Risk? Take Our Sleep Apnea Quiz.
Do you doze off easily during the day? Daytime drowsiness may be a sign that you should be evaluated by a sleep physician for obstructive sleep apnea. Take this brief quiz and Contact Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens for more information about OSA.
Chronic Snoring
Sleep breathing disorders have become a serious health problem for many Americans in all age groups. Get the facts about medical conditions related to chronic snoring.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
Common symptoms of OSA include loud, chronic snoring, and ‘gasping’ for air while sleeping. OSA patients typically stop breathing several times during sleep. This deprives the body of necessary oxygen and rest, placing the patient at risk of serious health problems.
TMJ Disorders
The Temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are the jaw ‘hinges’ that move when we open and close our mouth. For some patients, normal jaw joint movement is restricted and can be painful. Dr. Durden provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for TMJ disorders (TMD) at Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens.
Oral Appliance Therapy
Some OSA patients are unable to use CPAP, or have side effects that make it intolerable. In these cases, the patient and the sleep physician may consider oral appliance therapy. If an oral appliance is an option, the physician will refer the patient to a dental sleep medicine provider, such as Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens, to facilitate oral appliance therapy for OSA.
Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens Patient Testimonials
Dr. Phillip Durden is always appreciative of the opportunity to assist patients with supportive oral appliance therapy for OSA and and treatment for TMJ pain.
“I had a migraine that started yesterday and was still biting at me today… Almost instantaneously from having the trigger point injection, it was… pain relief that just melted across my skull and into my temple… I feel 100% better than I did and I can't tell you how grateful I am, thank you.”
— Louise“I had every symptom of TMJ… I was in a lot of pain… [Dr. Durden] evaluated me and he said that he felt like I was a classic candidate for TMJ therapy… He has changed my bite to a place where it is comfortable, he has also given me 100% relief.”
